First and foremost, we all at the CENTRO CINÓFILO SALATINO canine center are proud of being Brazilians. Our national banner flies above our main gate, in the same spirit as done in the USA, where many houses fly the banner at their entrance.

My first pedigree dog was a Doberman named ARPO DE LA BESIÈRE, which I bought in April of 1970 from my dear friend Carlindo Valeriani Neto. That purchase marked the beginning of a great friendship which lasted 22 years and without doubt, has been the most important in my life. The first time I set foot on a dog show was in September of 1971 where I showed Arpo at the 5th Dog Festival hosted by the Kennel Clube Paulista. Judging in the ring was no less than the Dra. Hilda Drumond, today a renowned fancier and all breed judge. At the time we were awarded a loud “very good”, since Arpo missed to P2’s (pro-molar teeth).

After that, much water has flown under the bridge, many passions started and ended, many were the houses I lived, many trips that I took, many were the friends I found and many were the breeds which I introduced and improved in Brazil, as were many the dogs that came and left my life.

A few decades later, now in my 50’s, I have decided to transform this passion for dogs into a business that would bring me pleasure and, maybe, a little profit. That is how the idea of a Dog Center came up, uniting the activities of breeding selected breeds, a model hotel for dogs, a SPA for their well being, the implementation of still unknown dog sport activities such as lure cursing and earthdog. In summary, a wide space to gather all those people who see in their dogs their allies and partners.

Beyond dogs, my other great passion is to dine well, and as some friends say, to cook well. This old dream is finally coming to reality with the construction of our future restaurant. Soon we will be able to taste together some of the dishes which we plan to prepare with great care. And since nothing in this life happens by chance, in May of 2006 I met the young handler Rochester de Oliveira who, thrilled with my ideas, has decided to embrace the project. We soon partnered up and with his addition to the business we could start to also provide dog handling, trimming and grooming services to those clients interested in having their dogs shown in competitions.

Our facilities are located at the border of the towns of Embu das Artes and Cotia in the State of São Paulo, in an area comprising 18 acres, of which 80% are protected natural Atlantic Forest which we preserve with much effort. Inside our property we have a clean and thunderous creek, several indigenous sub-tropical plants and trees such as bromeliae, orchids, ipê, cinnamon tree, aroeira, araçá, cambuci, uvaia, pitanga and many varieties of palm trees. We also have local wild fow, such as tucans, lovebirds, paroquets, sabiá, jacutinga and inhambu; and some endangered mammals live in our forest, such as the sagüi monkey, the tatu, the caxinguelê, the nail monkey and some deer. Even a wild cat known as a “jaguatirica” has been sighted once. All the flower pictures that appear on our website were photographed here.

We could not miss to mention that our mascots are a beautiful couple of macaws of the “canindé” variety named JUVENTINO AUGUSTO and FURBA MARIA. Both are duly registered with the Brazilian Endangered Species Agency IBAMA under # CEDRA 103 and CEDRA 529 and they enchant all who visit the Centro Cinófilo Salatino.

As judicious breeders of Salukis, Papillons, Miniature Long Coated Teckels and Italian Greyhounds, we have brought to Brazil the best blood lines presently available. To have a deeper understanding of each of the breeds please access the individual links on our website and check out the individual pedigrees.

And in addition to our pure bred dogs of extraordinary lineages, we do have 5 mongrels which we rescued off the street. Actually, if every dog breeder had the generosity to shelter a few stray dogs, certainly the number of abandoned animals could be reduced significantly.
|
| |
|
Our mongrels are: Aster, Bela, Cotia, Maria and Darlene.

|
When we see the picture of Darlene today compared to one taken the day she arrived, one can see that we almost built another parody of he myth of the Greek sculptor Pygmalion. The weak and skinny puppy has developed into a harmonious bitch, healthy and happy.
